Ocotillos or coachwhip plants grow leaves only after a rain. Eventually they turn color, fall off, and don't grow back until it rains again. It's always a treat when the spring blossoms appear while yellow leaves coat the branches. The curve-billed thrasher, Toxostoma curvirostre, was an added bonus.
