Read MoreThese deer popped up several times one morning in a patch of wild desert east of Tucson. They were curious but calm. I wondered if they spent most of their time in this low spot with lots of big bushes for hiding. Or were they just passing through from Saguaro NP (East) across the street? Either way, they're in for a surprise. The land will soon be developed. But not as it was originally zoned with only one house per 3 acre lot. That would allow for the free passage of deer and other wild animals. Instead, a “minor resort” is planned, with a restaurant, cafe, 49 guest rooms, parking spaces, and 29 casitas 17 of which will be two stories high.
This poor girl who had a blind left eye apparently didn't see the cattle-guard, and got stuck. We stayed to direct traffic until the sheriff came. A few days later I called the sheriff's department and learned that she got out on her own. I asked if she was injured. The report didn't say That was in 2016. I imagine she's gone now – slaughtered, cut apart, and eaten.
