A gather is when the BLM or other government agency or people they hire round up many of the wild horses in an area to relieve grazing pressure on the range that the horses often share with cattle. A helicopter is usually used to herd the horses into a valley where two fences of jute or burlap converge to an opening in a small coral to where the horses are funneled so they can be loaded onto trucks to be transported to processing facilities. Eventually the horses are auctioned for adoption.
