Oak Flat - Trees
Oak flat is well-named. The terrain is rough, but relatively flat, and covered with oak trees. Oaks produce nutrient-rich, high-calorie acorns, a vital food for both people and animals. With the oaks grow the kind of junipers and pines typical of a dry, grassy woodland. If Resolution Copper digs its mine, all of the trees in these pictures will, in time, be destroyed.

It's one reason Oak Flat, where these oaks stand, is regarded as sacred to the native people whose ancestors lived in the area since before recorded history. Now, Oak Flat could be destroyed if the Resolution Mining Company is allowed to tunnel down beneath a giant mass of copper ore. The tunnels will, as planned, eventually collapse. That will expose the valuable copper, and cause countless oaks and the habitats they support to cave in on themselves. Climate science warns us this is not the time to destroy carbon-locking wild landscapes.
