Before plastering I blew clay slip onto the bale walls. Clay slip is essentially muddy water. It allows the first layer of mud plaster to adhere more strongly to the walls. This is the only picture I have of me working on the house. The camera is on a tripod and I'm holding the remote shutter release in my right hand. I only shot a few frames because I didn't feel comfortable spaying muddy water so close to my camera.

Mom kept asking to help with the mud plastering so I finally let her give it a try. I expected that she would press a few handfuls on, realize how hard it was, and give up. However, while sitting in her walker she worked steadily for two hours without complaint nor any pressure from me. At the time she was 99 years old.
