Roof: Decking and Standing Seam Steel Panels
Other than working with stone, installing the roof was the most enjoyable part of building my house thanks to the views. I went with a standing seam metal roof because although expensive it will probably last longer than me. Plus, special hardware allowed the solar panels to attach directly to the standing seams without drilling into the metal which could cause leaks. The house consists of 2 shed-style roofs – one covering the carport, and one on the main house and porches. I installed the 18' steel panels on the carport by myself. But the panels for the house/porches were 30' long and could buckle and bend if lifted by one person. So I hired Johnnie and Paul to give me a hand.
